Description
Nature has been providing products that have implications as pharmacological agents. There is even a traditional belief that all the plants grown on this planet have some or other therapeutic/physiological attributes. Natural products isolated in original form are often not fit for their use in human or animal medicine. Sometimes they don’t have the required potency and sometimes desired level of biological activity. But, the activities of natural products can be optimized to a desired level by subjecting them to some simpler and logical modifications for their probable use. Recent years have experienced a resurgence of natural products for drug discovery in favor of synthetic drugs. Therefore, it is high time to focus on the world of natural products and find ways, which may be the synthetic modifications of the existing molecules or finding the new molecules to have new drugs which are far more potent and safer to use. The active natural molecules can also serve as starting point for the target based studies and consequently lead to development of new therapeutic agents.
